Description
The basics of geographic coordinate systems, attribute data management, vector data manipulation, data editing, spatial statistics, and modeling using GIS. Data in earth and environmental science is complex and almost always includes a spatial component. To analyze spatial environmental data, we must use a system that understands this to represent it in a digital environment to derive useful information. At the end of the semester, students will design their project utilizing GIS to investigate earth and environmental phenomena under the guidance of their instructor.
