(Also LNG 367) 4 cr., 4 hr. A study of Arabic literature in translation covering a variety of genres, authors, cultural traditions, and historical periods. Works will be examined in relation to literacy and other cultural-historical contexts. Topics covered may include: the rise of nationalism, colonialism, and post-colonialism, hybrid identities, gender issues, national traumas, and dystopias. for English majors or minors concentrating in literature, this course fulfills the requirements for literature in translation. For linguistics, writing, and dramatic literature concentrators, it counts as an elective in the major. Pre or Co-requiste: An ENH 200-level course or ENL 290.
