The Atlantic World

A survey of the diverse historical experiences that resulted from contact in the Atlantic world among the indigenous populations of the Americas, Europeans, and Africans from the 15th through the 19th centuries. This course examines Pre-Columbian historical development in the Americas, the European historical contexts of expansion, patterns of contact and settlement, the negotiation of indigenous peoples with European empires, the economic and social impact of slavery and emancipation, and the role of revolutions in the historical development of diverse social and political systems in the Western hemisphere. For History majors and minors, this is designated as a World history course.
