A survey of selected aspects of European civilization in the 20th Century from its pinnacle of world dominance in 1900 through its self-destruction in world war and genocide to the crises of the present day. Topics include European imperialism, the origins and impact of World War 1, the Russian Revolution, Fascism and Nazism, the Great Depression, World War II and the Holocaust, the Cold War division of Europe, Decolonization, welfare state versus state socialism, the Revolutions of 1989-91 and problems of European integration. For History majors and minors, this is designated as a modern European history course.
