Transnational Cinemas and Global Diaspora
Department(s)
Description
Examines major cinematic traditions that transcend, exceed, or disrupt national and intra-national borders. Taking account of the vast movements of peoples and cultures across the globe, this course may focus on regional, political, socio-economic, and/or cultural formations, and on the diasporic (or exilic) refashioning of the areas and societies they come to inhabit. This course will examine historical and present-day national cinemas in the context of decolonial struggles across the globe, especially the Global South, such as Central and South America, Africa, India and South Asia, and the Arab worlds.
