Program Description
The Adolescent Education (7-12) program is designed for those students seeking NYS certification to teach Spanish in grades 7-12 in New York public schools. Students in the program enroll in and complete the Spanish major along with the Adolescent Education program sequence below. This program requires students to complete 100 hours of fieldwork in grades 7-12 before the student teaching semester and 400 hours of student teaching in the final semester of the program.
General Criteria for Enrollment in the Education Courses
Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above to enroll in education courses. Criteria for Continuing in the Educational Sequences: Students must earn a C+ or above in each education class. Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 throughout the program.
NYS Certification Requirement
course is a requirement for NYS Certification and may also be used to satisfy the social science general education requirement. Students are encouraged to take this course before graduation.
Liberal Arts and Sciences Requirement
Most education courses are non-liberal arts and sciences.
