Program Description
The Biochemistry program offers a Bachelor of Science degree with two tracks and a minor. Track One will lead to an American Chemical Society (ACS) Accredited Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry.

Program Goals
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the scientific theories in Chemistry and Biology in order to understand, appreciate and approach cells and complex organisms at the molecular level while unraveling the biological ramifications of the molecular constituents of the system.

  • Safely work in a laboratory and perform modern experimental techniques in organic synthesis, cell culture, genetic manipulation, chemical and biological separations, macromolecular purification and biopolymer characterization.

  • Develop critical thinking, analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills and be able to independently carry out, record and analyze the results of biochemical experiments.

  • Evaluate ethical and environmental implications of biochemistry.

  • Communicate the results of their work in the form of written reports and oral presentations and use modern library searching and retrieval methods to obtain information on scientific topics.

  • Begin graduate studies in science and/or to pursue careers in related fields, such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, biotechnology, pharmacy, patent law and science education.
