1. Allow COM 200 as an option in the first Media Studies “two of” category but only if a different course is taken in the COM Core “one of” category; some courses in this category are rarely taught (in part due to loss of faculty with expertise), others are very popular, always fill, and may be difficult to find seats in.

2. In Media Studies concentration, CIN 120 becomes required instead of an option, completing the cycle of production begun in CIN 111 Video 1 with this course’s focus on post-production, so that students have experience at the introductory level with all stages of production before moving to more advanced courses.

3. Clears roadblock in sequencing, in that students who took CIN 120 were eligible for only 4 of 7 courses in the more advanced category; students who took COM 250 were eligible for only 1 of 7; students who took COM 251 were eligible for only 2 of 7; students who took COM 270 or COM 240/CIN 241 were eligible for no courses in the advanced category. This resulted in an excessive number of substitutions—for virtually every student when subs should be the exception, not the rule.

4. Adds CIN 304 to a history theory bucket and CIN 311, CIN 312, CIN 330, COM 341, COM 351, COM 336 to intermed./advanced production bucket to increase more advanced production options with courses just as relevant to COM-Media Studies majors as CIN majors.
