Program Description
The Geography program offers students a study of the complex forces that interact to shape the world allowing them to develop an understanding and appreciation of the diversity of the earth's physical and cultural environments, as well as the mutually reinforcing interrelationships between people and places on a variety of scales.

Program Goals
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate map reading ability, basic world geography map literacy, and spatial and cartographic analytical proficiency.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of major geographic concepts and theories and identify major geographic problems, issues.
    Possess basic knowledge of Geographic Information Systems.

  • Develop a capacity to write and speak about geographical issues in an intellectually informed manner.

Program Admission, Continuation, and Graduation Requirements
For admission, continuation and graduation from the Bachelor of Arts degree program in Geography, students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Program Internship/Independent Study Policy
Geography Internship (GEG 595 - 598) or Geography Independent Study (GEG 591- 594) may be used to satisfy this requirement. Two courses (8 credits) may be taken outside the Geography major with the permission of the Geography coordinator.
