Course Title

International Security

Catalog Description

This course examines conceptions of security comparing traditional and contemporary understandings of international security including human security. The course discusses the causes, conduct, and consequences of international conflict, while also recognizing other sources of insecurity such as the environment, education, and health. Topics in the course include causes of inter-state war and intra-state conflict, weapons of mass destruction, new wars, terrorism, economic security, and environmental security. The class studies these topics with reference to representative contemporary cases.
